Birmingham is a walkable, dense, well-cared-for city. The roofing jobs here come with their own rules — narrow lots, neighbors close on both sides, downtown ordinances, and architecture that ranges from 1920s Tudor to brand-new modern infill.
Compared to the larger lots in Bloomfield or Rochester, a Birmingham install has a few specific challenges we plan around from day one:
For older Tudor and Colonial homes, the architectural shingles that read most authentically here are GAF Timberline HDZ in Charcoal, Weathered Wood, or Hickory — or the heavier GAF Camelot II / CertainTeed Grand Manor designer profiles for the homes that want the slate look without the slate price.
For modern infill builds and contemporary remodels, standing seam in matte black, dark bronze, or slate gray fits the architectural language. We work with the architect of record on color and panel-width specs when there is one. More on metal →
If your home is inside the Birmingham Historic Preservation district, material and color changes require Historic District Commission review. We've submitted color boards, shingle samples, and product cut sheets to the HDC enough times that the process doesn't slow us down — and we'll handle the documentation as part of the estimate.
